I have talked about HAPPY VALLEY before. You may have heard me in the store, or seen my rantings on myspace, maybe even absorbed my utter disgust in the daily newspaper! Well, just as you thought your children were safe and animals had their place….Here comes HAPPY VALLEY in comic format! A good friend of mine started the idea on a 24 Hour Comic Day. The same 24 Hour Comic Day that started Empire’s Comics Vault wishing they could be involved. From there we have seen even more grueling episode of HAPPY VALLEY exercised through ritual punishment of 24 hours of Hell!

But creator JESSE JONES could not be stopped, would not be stopped. In fact he had been possessed by a demon that forced him to write and draw a webcomic daily through 2008. With those done he has turned to a new medium of punishment. Not for us but for himself!

Sac-Con Panel, Webcomics, Hayward-Con & 24 Hour Comic Day!

Well, we did our first Q&A Panel at Sac-Con this weekend and I think it went well. We had a great attendance with a lot of fun and interested questions as to who we were, what we had planned, how we did it and how anyone else could do the same. Thank you to everyone who came by to support us!

We also gave out a pile of swag to all who attended. Everyone who came through got a copy of The Continuum #1, a coupon for Empire's Comics Vault, a limited print featuring the Women of ECV and a raffle ticket for an original piece of art (I hope you liked it), and an appearance in our book. Doug Briel of Sacramento will be appearing in an upcoming issue so that should be fun.

Now a number of other things to discuss as October is a packed month. First please check out our website for the newest webcomic from Relic & Ego. Part 2 will be posted tomorrow. We are hoping to get back on a regular schedule with the webcomics and can use help from you to get some done. Closer to home there is a very challenging and fun event taking place at Empire's Comics Vault on October 18-19th. 24 Hour Comic Day! This will be the 4th time we have run it and each time it gets better and better. We had 12 attendees last time and are shooting for 15 this go around. The objective is to sit down, throw out all your old ideas and come up with a new 24 page comic. You then draw and write 24 pages in 24 hours. NEW Sacramento Comic Anthology Planned!!

We here at ECV Press have decided to put together a new anthology title! The book will be 3 separate tales by 3 separate teams. Rich Curtze, Surreal artist, is working on showing us the old west in a way we have never seen. Hai-Na-Nu Saulque will be giving us a story steeped in religion and myth with a young woman thrust right into the middle of and ages old war. Here is a close up shot of Chitsu by Adriano Vicente. Domes is a book that I originally intended to be in anthology format with other Sacramento creators. After that fell through I began working it into graphic novel format. It will be a long road at 148 pages but i believe it will be worth it when we reach the end and can bring this book to you.

Here is another early concept design when we were trying to decide which direction to take the book. The backgrounds are very much like the final product but neither of the characters made the final cut.

When we were first starting NEEDS OF THE FEW the exact designs of our story were a toss up. Was it going to be a classic Sci-fi feel or a gritty Heavy Metal tone. Eventually the Heavy Metal dirty look won out and these early prototypes were scrapped. It doesn't mean we wont use them for something else...

ECV Press is keeping us busy...NOT busy enough for me to stop working on side projects! Here is a look at a 48 page stand alone book that I am working on called NEEDS OF THE FEW. The artist is Mario Guevara. He did a couple of the early ECV Press webcomics then moved on to Bloodrayne from Digital Webbing, just completed Lone Ranger & Tonto through Dynamite Entertainment and is working on Solomon Kane at Dark Horse!
